The US Air Force’s Space and Missile Systems Corporation awarded Northrop Grumman with a 10-month fixed-priced contract to develop protected military satellite capabilities with the aim of making the technology more affordable. Northrop received the contracts last September 28.
Under the agreement, the aerospace and defense technology company will design and demonstrate software simulations, as well as hardware demonstrations. Northrop is also tasked to design technologies which are able to resist interference, as well as “unclassified, government-owned waveform specification and demonstrate its feasibility through component-level demonstrations.”
The Virginia-based company are looking to reduce the cost of protected military satcom systems to that of unprotected satellite systems. They also look to improve national networks while leveraging the government’s investments on the said technologies.
